Rio Tinto donates $100,000 for Queensland flood victims
Rio Tinto today provided $100,000 to the Premier of Queensland's Disaster Fund Appeal which will give much needed assistance to Queenslanders affected by recent floods.
"The floods have touched all of us as we have seen the despair of our fellow Queenslanders whose homes have been inundated and possessions destroyed," said Hubie van Dalsen, Managing Director Rio Tinto Coal Australia.
"In supporting the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal we want to play a part in helping people in the flooded areas re-establish their lives and move on from this catastrophic event."
Mr van Dalsen said Rio Tinto's contribution would go well beyond this donation, as the Group will continue to work on the ground in those communities around its affected operations in Central Queensland.
"During these weather events the safety of our employees and their families has been of paramount importance," Mr van Dalsen said.
"We have also been pleased to continue to meet our scheduled coal railings to ensure product continues to make its way to our customers."
The Premier's Disaster Relief Funds will be distributed by the Red Cross.
Members of the public can make donations to the Premiers Disaster Relief Appeal through any branch of the Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, ANZ or National Australia Bank.
