Hail Creek Mine supports local organisations

Community groups have the tools to become more sustainable and self-supporting thanks to a forum delivered by the local council and Hail Creek Mine.

The Hail Creek Mine Community Development Fund provided $7,500 to Sarina Shire Council to run its Not for Profit forum, which was attended by more than 60 not for profit representatives and volunteers.

The forum provided essential skills and training to not for profit local community groups and volunteers working in areas as diverse as tourism, agriculture and surf lifesaving.

Sarina Shire Council Mayor Karen May said the conference covered a range of topics, such as strategic planning, insurance, funding, tax tips and legal responsibilities.

"Feedback from participants has been very positive. The conference provided an opportunity for volunteers to network and learn important skills aimed at running a successful not for profit organisation," Ms May said.

"The flow on effect of the conference will be the creation of capacity building opportunities and economic development through the enhancement of business and employment opportunities in the shire.

"This is particularly important for the sustainability of community organisations within the shire, as the implementation of council amalgamations will no doubt have an impact on the ability of regional councils to provide support to local not for profit groups."
